Sustainability at 78 Acre Woods Tallow

78 Acre Woods Tallow was created in 2022 as a way to honor the animal, and ensure we were using all that we could in order to show respect to the life given.

Tallow for skincare became a way to incorporate this. Our business model has been built ensuring we create as little waste as possible, using ingredients local to us, and foraging for the botanicals use in our products.

We source grass- fed, pasture raised suet fat from local farms in Central Alberta. This suet fat would otherwise be discarded unused. Creating tallow skincare from this suet utilizes more of the animal and ensures we are using reverence in regards to the animals life.

All of the product packaging you will find at 78 Acre Woods is plastic free; our glass jars have tin lids with a silicone ring, our lip balm tubes are cardboard and when we ship our packages, they are plastic free, aside from the tape used to secure the packages.

We have been working over the past year to source herbs grown locally in Alberta or Canada, we are happy to say that almost all the herbs we use are either grown in Canada or foraged by us.

78 Acre Woods Tallow products have, and always will be essential oil free, for many reasons, one being that a significant amount of plant material is required to create a small vial of essential oil. For example it takes approximately 47 lemons to make 15mls of essential oil, or 313 pounds of rose petals to create 15mls of essential oils.  Did you know it takes all the rose petals from 30-50 roses to get one single drop of rose essential oil? Think of the shear amount of land, water and resources this requires to create this essential oil.

In using the whole plant, we are able to obtain many beneficial properties, rather than just the isolated essential oil.

We are not claiming to be perfect in our business practices, but we do our best and make adjustments as needed along the way.
